This museum quality set of Matrushka dolls features one of the most favorite winter fairytales, the Snow Queen. The original artist's design attributed this set of Matrushka dolls to the one-of-a-kind items in the collection of Russian Treasure.
The famous fairy tale composed by Danish story-teller Hans Christian Andersen is painted scene by scene in these Matrushka dolls achieving the most vivid impression. The main characters, Kay and Gerda, sitting in their warm house are pictured in the first Matrushka doll while the lady with the icy-blue hair looks at them through the window. The story unfolds as each Matrushka doll revolves – and now Kay is taken by the Snow Queen to her realm. Gerda, desperate to find him, gives up the most precious things to find out where Kay is, and starts on her way to the Kingdom of snowflakes. The smallest Matrushka doll shows the happy end of the story, when Gerda has melted Kay's heart with her warm tears and they returned back home.
These Matrushka dolls are noted fot the exceptional usage of rich oil and watercolors to paint the different times of the year: spring with the azure of the sky and the vibrant cobalt green of the grass is set against the cold winter shades of steel blue, cerulean, and ghost white.
The artist's inimmitable manner of painting reveals the tiniest features of each Matrushka doll with high precision and an eye for detail.
A perfect gift on winter holidays, St. Valentine's day, or birthday, this set of Matrushka dolls is sure to carry you away to the world of childhood, magic, and dreams.
