The art of Russian lacquer box miniature painting is a rather unique aspect of decorative art. It is closely linked with national Russian history and traditions. In Russia the first Russian lacquer box appeared to be in early 18th century. The practice of applying detailed painting skills to boxes that were made of papier-mâché started in the late 18th century in the village of Fedoskino.
