This set of Russian Matryoshka with Red Easter Egg features one of the most celebrated religious holidays in Russia – Easter.

On the outer Matryoshka Doll you can see a lovely girl holding a red Easter egg and a snow-white handkerchief in her hands. The origin of red Easter egg among the Easter Orthodox goes back to a story of Mary Magdalene. The egg itself is said to represent Christ. The intact egg died red represents Christ’s passion and death, while the opened egg represents new life. So here is the legend linking Mary Magdalene to the red Easter eggs. Mary visits the Roman emperor and greets him with “Christ has risen”. The emperor replied that Christ can no more rise again than this egg can turn red. After these words the egg in his hand turned blood red. She then continued to preach Christ’s resurrection to the stunned emperor.

Another no less important symbol of Easter is paskha - a Russian dessert made from curd or cream and traditionally served at Easter. Paskha is depicted in the hands of the second Russian Matryoshka Nesting Doll. Usually Russians take painted eggs and paskhas to church and set out on long tables to be blessed by the priest.

Each Russian Matryoshka Nesting Doll features cocks, hens, chicks or eggs at the foot of girls. In Christianity mother hen with her chickens embodies Christ with his flock. Besides, on every Babushka doll there are flowers (mainly    chamomiles and buttercups) and brairds. Chamomiles are symbols of Russian nature, love, faith, honesty, simplicity, while brairds are symbols of new life. Buttercups scare evil spirits.

The Russian Matryoshka Nesting DollsMatryoshka with Red Easter Egg” set was designed and hand-painted exclusively for Russian Treasure customers by famous Russian artist Shilovskaya.

On every Russian Matryoshka Nesting Doll you can see a beautiful Russian girl symbolizing Russian beauty. The girl is dressed traditionally in bright colorful kerchief with golden ornament and floral prints (mainly roses), and sky-blue sarafan (Russian national dress). But!.. Take a closer look at the Matryoshka Nesting Doll and you will notice that it’s not a sarafan at all but real blue-blue sky! It is truly a magnificent combination of a human and a nature.

Take a piece of joy with you! The Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls will decorate any place and bring happiness and love to its owners.

It is also rather funny and original Easter gift for your friends and relatives!
