A true masterpiece of Russian artwork, this set of Matryoshka nesting dolls tells a fabulous story about the Nutcracker, a most favorite winter fairy tale around the world. Composed by E.T.A. Hoffmann back in 1816, this story has been featured in many an art form, including this splendid set of Matryoshka nesting dolls.

The artist has picked the most vivid scenes to embed them into this set of Matryoshka nesting dolls. The first Matryoshka pictures little Marie and her brother Fritz looking at the curious Nutcracker doll, given to them as a Christmas gift by their godfather Drosselmeyer. The Nutcracker appeared to be a prince from the fairy tale, taking little Marie to the wonderful Doll kingdom. The tender watercolors of misty rose and floral white with a drop of aquamarine are used to paint the dreamlike landscape that Marie saw in the Kingdom of Dolls. Nutcracker managed to kill the wicked Mouse King, and the smallest Matryoshka nesting doll features the happy end of the story – the Nutcracker turning into a handsome prince and marrying Marie, thus making her the Queen of the Doll Kingdom.  

This set of Matryoshka nesting dolls is hand painted and finished with fine lacquering to emphasize the uniqueness of its design and the subtlety of the author's representation. Each of these Matryoshka nesting dolls depicts Marie's beautiful face with her large royal blue eyes and vibrant amber hair with tender roses adorning her curls.
