Buy Palekh - quality that Russian Treasure store is known for.
Palekh miniature is a Russian folk art of miniature painting, which is done with egg yolk tempera paints on varnished articles made of papier-mâché (a material that consists of pieces of paper, stuck together using a wet paste.). Palekh Russian lacquer art on papier-mâché first appeared in 1923 in the village of Palekh, located in the district of Ivanovo. This unique style of miniature painting was borrowed from Russian Orthodox Iconography. The Palekh boxes are painted with the bright paints using pigments of semi-precious stones over the black background and are known for their delicate and intricate design with rich golden shading, and accurate silhouettes of flattened figures, which often cover the surface of the lids and sides of the articles completely. The Palekh miniatures usually represent characters from real life, literary works, fairy tales, epic poems, legends, and songs.
